Words of wisdom from a wonderful actress and writer who dominated the Soaps in the 90's.

1. Get a mentor - living or dead. Someone whose life inspires you to continue.

2. Get a spiritual practice. Something that grounds you in what really matters. Even hiking can be a spiritual practice.

3. Study, study, study. Study TV and films. Study plays. Read. Be in class. Always be studying, even when you're working. Get that support. Give that support.

4. Take care of your health. Really.

5. Get a job that lets you go on auditions and pays your bills.

6. Help other actors/artists. Be generous.

7. Build relationships with people inside of Hollywood, whether by getting a job at an agency, pr firm or studio, or doing USC/UCLA films. Today's intern is tomorrow's big agent or director.

8. Write to people whose work you admire - directors, writers, cinematographers, actors. Don't just tweet hello to get something. Be interested.

9. Think big. Use your voice, Discover what's unique about you, your life's story or POV, and use it in the world - whether by writing a one person show, creating a YouTube presence, a blog, or even starting an acting workshop for kids - or join an existing one.

10. Build a solid, stable life filled with solid, reliable people.

11. No matter what anybody says - if you have a passionate determination and take real action in the world just keep working toward your goal or dream. That's what builds inner strength and real happiness. Whether or not you ultimately end up where you thought you would when you started.
